Couples Therapy
Having the security and safety in our relationship to seek consistent support also provides us with a solid foundation in which to be more curious and open while venturing out into the world.
Having security and safety in our primary relationship provides us with a solid foundation in which to be more curious, open and expansive venturing out into the world. My work with couples helps to strengthen their bond and outfit them with a set of skills to navigate the natural cycle of harmony, disharmony and repair in relationships. In our society we often don’t learn the skills to repair disharmony and make it back harmony with our partners. Our culture often focuses on individual empowerment, focusing on what “I” want and need. I aim to move couples into skills for “relational empowerment.” In this space, individuals are able to bring their full voices to the relationship, while also staying loving and connected. Through our work together, my goal is to help you achieve greater ease, trust, closeness and connection with your partner that can last a lifetime.
Our work will begin with a thorough assessment of the strengths and challenges of your relationship. I will ask you each to fill out detailed intake paperwork, meet with you as a couple for our first session, and meet individually with each of you. Once the strengths and challenges of your bond are identified, we will work together to increase your ability to manage conflicts in a healthy way and to deepen your friendship and sense of meaning together.
Best practices in the couples counseling field indicate that longer sessions are more effective. For this reason, I work in 90 minute sessions as a minimum, and 2-hour or 3-hour sessions are most common. I meet with couples weekly or biweekly depending on your needs and circumstances. If your relationship has several past hurts, or multiple ongoing areas of conflict, consider a Marathon Session to jumpstart your progress.
What To Expect
$270 for a 90 minute session, $360 for a 2-hour session.
I do not bill insurance for couples counseling. Insurance companies require that an individual person have a diagnosis in order to reimburse for therapy services. Because our work focuses on your relationship and improving the interactions between the two of you, couples work is not covered by medical insurance. Some Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) are flexible and allow account holders to use funds without an individual diagnosis. If you would like a receipt in order to use your HSA, I can provide you with a receipt or our sessions and total charges.

The drama of love is all about this hunger for safe emotional connection, a survival imperative we experience from the cradle to the grave. Loving connection is the only safety nature ever offers us.
